Rabbis Shlomie Deren and Moshe Frank have confirmed Congregation Ezrath Israel, Ellenville will be a participant in the “Ellenville Garden Village” project. Although the synagogue stands in three acres of grounds, Congregation Ezrath Israel allocated for organic vegetable cultivation a half-acre plot of land adjoining the nearby residence of the Rabbi on the corner of Childs Street and Canal Street, Ellenville.

March 14, 2015: Project presentation given and participation approved.


March 26, 2015: Donation of vegetable seeds received.

March 28, 2015: John visited Congregation Ezrath Israel and assessed the cultivation potential of the synagogue grounds.

March 29, 2015: John drafted a garden design.

June 1, 2015: John informed Rabbi Shlomie Deren of postponement to 2020 of the garden’s cultivation, due to a lack of volunteer commitment.

September 11, 2015: John designed the vegetable garden, as reviewed and approved by Rabbi Shlomie Deren, Rabbi Moshe Frank and Congregation Ezrath Israel members.

April 25, 2016: Although John's design for the St. Mary’s and St. Andrew’s Catholic Church vegetable garden received the approval of Father John Lynch, the garden’s cultivation has been postponed, due to a lack of volunteer commitment.

Pastor Jay Vogelaar has confirmed an interest in the participation of Ellenville Reformed Church in the “Ellenville Garden Village” project, on condition that the Praise Dominion vegetable garden is being maintained year on year and is proving successful as a reliable food pantry supplier.

A larger plot of land could be available for cultivation, and John’s plan for a new vegetable garden incorporating flower beds, a lawn and seating areas will require the church board’s consideration and approval.

September 11, 2015: John designed the vegetable garden, to be reviewed by Pastor Jay Vogelaar and Ellenville Reformed Church congregation members.

September 16, 2015: Pastor Jay Vogelaar informed John that the Ellenville Reformed Church management board had decided against 2016 participation in the “Ellenville Garden Village” project, but a future plan would be considered.

Canon Jeffrey Golliher is considering St. John's Memorial Episcopal Church as a participant in the “Ellenville Garden Village” project, on condition that a “no vegetable” garden can be created on overgrown land adjoining the church building. This would be an aesthetically-pleasing space for peaceful enjoyment of nature, featuring flowering plants, herbs, and plants to attract birds, pollinators and butterflies.
