FUTURE ELLENVILLE MARKETS

FUTURE ELLENVILLE MARKETS

Future plans for Ellenville Farmers' Market
That the established Ellenville Farmers’ Market will run each year for only a twenty-week, June through October season represents its greatest limitation as a retailing resource, given that consumers must purchase provisions year-round. John is therefore preparing programs for market diversification and season extension.
In the prime harvest season of August and September, the warm and pleasant Friday evening culture of Ellenville’s theater and restaurant district will also include a small and relaxed farmers’ market, as organized in partnership with local restaurateurs.

Introducing a concept popular in Britain, John is working with crafts people for Ellenville to host a 2016 Christmas Market (November 19-20 through December 17-18).

Working under the direction of Ulster County Executive’s Department for Economic Development and the region’s small business development services, John is setting up a year-round, seven days per week indoor market for Ellenville. Located adjacent to the farmers’ market site, the premises will be tastefully refurbished to accommodate an estimated thirteen vendors, being retailers currently without their own store. The indoor market will provide products and services otherwise unavailable in Ellenville, which may include fresh fruits and vegetables, pet grooming and pet accessories, fashion clothing, children’s clothing and childcare products, jewelry, crafts pieces, decorative household wares, sports goods, footwear, antiques, etc. The Ellenville indoor market is scheduled for opening in May, 2016, and prospective vendors are recommended to contact John.

Strategically, this farmers’ market's success is centering upon the achievement of equilibrium between the three 'interests': developers, retailers and consumers. Causality runs from the 'sovereign' consumer, and should the local and visiting public prefer to purchase their provisions of healthy food at the farmers’ market rather than through the corporate alternatives, vendors will find their receipts rising, the size and the frequency of market accommodation will increase long-term, and the village will have a regenerative focus.

When Ellenville Farmers’ Market enjoys established success in meeting community and economic rebuilding goals, rewards will come in the form of partnerships with residents, organizations and businesses, and the municipality. As we near the June 19, 2016 market opening day, new commitments of support and partnership within the Ellenville business community and among those selected as prospective vendors are absolutely imperative in order to guarantee that a first-rate season is enjoyed by all involved.

Having networked widely with all sectors of Ellenville society for the past year, it is very evident to John that a sincere desire exists among developers, retailers and consumers in this and neighboring communities for Ellenville to feature a thriving farmers’ market.

The twenty-week market season is being prepared by a manager with full-time dedication, backed up by major sponsors and a steering committee of professionals, such that a strong foundation is now in place here to welcome the commitment of local business sponsors and vendors from the farming and crafts communities.

Ellenville Farmers’ Market manager, John Clark, is ready to support and accommodate your individual needs. For further information, please feel free to contact John by email:

Postponed 2016 initiative for a year-round indoor market in Ellenville

Given that consumers must purchase provisions year-round, the greatest limitation of Ellenville Farmers’ Market as a retailing resource is its twenty-week season.

Ellenville Farmers’ Market manager John Clark is preparing programs for market diversification in Ellenville. Partnership with local restaurateurs will help to stage cultural, small-scale Friday evening farmers’ markets in August and September, while John is working with crafts people for Ellenville to host annual Holiday Markets.

A year-round European-style indoor market, opening seven days a week, is being planned for Ellenville.

Following a trial run in 2016, an indoor venue is being sought in Ellenville, to be refurbished to provide selling spaces for twelve retailers who are currently looking to set up their own store.

Mid-Hudson Small Business Development Center has refined the business plan, and the indoor market has also received the support of Ulster County Executive.

Ellenville’s retailing sector must expand and diversify to meet the needs of local consumers, and so help in regenerating our village’s economy. At the indoor market, consumers will have an opportunity to visit various independent vendors, all under one roof. This is not a flea market, as all goods are new or hand-crafted.

The year-round indoor market will provide products and services otherwise unavailable in Ellenville, which may include fresh fruits and vegetables, fashion clothing, children’s clothing and childcare products, jewelry, crafts pieces, pet accessories, household wares, computer accessories, sports goods, footwear, gifts, etc.

Small business owners, perhaps currently selling products online or struggling to cover the costs of running a storefront independently, are invited to open your own store at the indoor market, Ellenville.

A monthly $500 vendor fee will cover everything, including your own store space, general insurance, electricity, heating, air conditioning, internet connection, garbage disposal, bathroom, a cleaner, parking, and advertising.

Local artists are also welcome to use space at the indoor market for gallery displays of their work.

If you are ready to be a retailer, please call John Clark (845-668-0424), who will explain how this initiative can get your retailing business off to an affordable start, and with lasting success.

Ellenville-Wawarsing Chamber of Commerce President, Dr. Mark Craft, is personally backing the indoor market, sharing the vision that successful vendors could spin off to opening their own storefronts in local premises that are currently unoccupied.
